1 . Infantry Day: is observed annually on October 27th to commemorate the first military action by an Indian regiment against external aggression. This significant event took place in 1947 when the First Battalion of the Sikh Regiment landed in Srinagar to defend Jammu and Kashmir from a Pakistani invasion.

This day honors the bravery and sacrifice of the Indian Infantry, the backbone of the Indian Army. It acknowledges their crucial role in safeguarding the nation's borders and maintaining peace.

Infantry refers to soldiers who fight on foot. They are the backbone of any army, responsible for seizing and holding ground, and often the first line of defense in combat. While modern infantry may be transported to the battlefield by vehicles, they ultimately engage the enemy on foot.

2 .Swavlamban – 2024: the Indian Navy's annual Naval Innovation and Indigenisation seminar, is being held at Bharat Mandapam, Delhi, from October 28-29. Now in its third year, the seminar focuses on advancing self-reliance through technology and partnerships.

It highlights recent defense innovations and emerging technology for naval operations, including surveillance systems, autonomous vehicles across multiple domains, and advanced AI and quantum tech.

Over 115 exhibitors, including startups, MSMEs, and defense organizations, are showcasing their products, such as an anti-drone gun created by an Indian firm.

This year’s event builds on previous successes, where over 2000 proposals were submitted by Indian industries, leading to 155 prototype projects under the iDEX initiative.

Swavlamban 2024 aims to provide a collaborative environment for defense agencies, policymakers, and industry innovators to address future naval challenges and promote indigenization in the defense sector.

3 .Dyslexia: In a step towards spreading awareness about Dyslexia, the Rashtrapati Bhawan, Parliament, India Gate and other government offices have been lit red. This happens every year in October, which is International Dyslexia Awareness Month.

The campaign aims to raise awareness, reduce stigma and eliminate discrimination around the disease.

Dyslexia is a learning disability that primarily affects reading and writing skills. It's a neurological condition that causes difficulties in processing language, specifically in phonological awareness, verbal memory, and verbal processing speed.

Symptoms of Dyslexia

  • Difficulty with reading fluency and accuracy

  • Challenges with spelling and writing

  • Problems with phonological awareness (understanding sounds in words)

  • Difficulty with reading comprehension

  • Trouble with decoding words (sounding out words)

  • Issues with verbal memory and processing speed

Important to Note:

  • Dyslexia is not related to intelligence. Many people with dyslexia are highly intelligent and creative.

  • Early identification and intervention can significantly improve outcomes for individuals with dyslexia.

  • With appropriate support and strategies, people with dyslexia can lead successful lives.
