The challenge progressed through multiple stages, culminating in the selection of the top 10 finalists who are set to showcase their groundbreaking designs at WAVES 2025 in Mumbai.
2 .Mauritius,
General Studies Paper-I (250 Marks) – Indian Heritage and Culture, History, and Geography of the World and Society
a picturesque island nation in the Indian Ocean, is celebrated for its breathtaking beaches, vibrant multicultural heritage, and robust economy. Located approximately 2,000 kilometers off Africa's southeastern coast, the country comprises the main island of Mauritius, along with Rodrigues, Agaléga, and the St. Brandon archipelago.
Its capital, Port Louis, serves as the nation's financial and cultural heart. Formed by volcanic activity, Mauritius is encircled by stunning coral reefs and lagoons, including the mesmerizing "Underwater Waterfall" near Le Morne an optical illusion that captivates visitors. The island boasts a tropical climate, with warm weather year-round and occasional cyclones during the wet season (November–April).
Mauritius has a rich and layered history, having been colonized successively by the Dutch (1638–1710), French (1715–1810), and British (1810–1968) before gaining independence in 1968.
This colonial past has shaped its diverse society, where Indian, African, Chinese, and European cultures harmoniously blend, reflected in its languages English, French, Creole, and Bhojpuri—and vibrant festivals like Diwali, Eid, and Chinese Spring Festival.
The island is also home to UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as Aapravasi Ghat, a testament to the indentured labor system, and Le Morne Cultural Landscape, a symbol of resistance to slavery.
Economically, Mauritius stands out as a high-income nation, with thriving sectors in tourism, textiles, sugar production, and offshore financial services. Often dubbed the "Singapore of Africa," it has emerged as an innovation hub, particularly in ICT and renewable energy.
Politically, Mauritius is a stable democracy with a presidential-parliamentary system, and it plays an active role in international organizations such as the African Union (AU), Commonwealth, and Indian Ocean Commission (IOC).
The island is also unique as the only African country with a Hindu majority (48%) and is lauded for its high rankings in democracy and human development indices.

4 .i-HPV:
(General Studies-III (250 marks)Technology, Economic Development, Biodiversity, Environment, Security, and Disaster Management)
On April 23, 2025, India launched and validated its first indigenously developed, cost-effective RTPCR-based HPV test kits for cervical cancer screening, as confirmed by the "i-HPV" study across leading Indian labs. These kits target the most common high-risk HPV types, offering a potentially efficient alternative to traditional methods for a national screening program, leveraging existing RTPCR infrastructure.

Globally, several HPV DNA assays like cobas, Onclarity, and others have long been validated internationally, with some even receiving WHO prequalification and, in the US, FDA approval for self-collection within healthcare settings as of May 2024.
5 .COFEPOSA:
(GS Paper II: Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International Relations)
COFEPOSA stands for the Conservation of Foreign Exchange and Prevention of Smuggling Activities Act, enacted by the Indian Parliament in 1974.
This act provides for preventive detention in specific cases related to the conservation and augmentation of foreign exchange and the prevention of smuggling activities.
Under COFEPOSA, the Central Government or authorized State Governments can order the detention of individuals, including foreigners, if they are satisfied that the person is involved in activities such as smuggling, abetting smuggling, or dealing in smuggled goods, which pose a threat to national security or economic stability.
The Act mandates the establishment of Advisory Boards to review detention cases within five weeks of detention. These boards, comprising current or former High Court judges, examine the grounds for detention and submit a report to the government.
The initial period of detention can be up to six months, and based on the Advisory Board's report, it can be extended up to one year. Detained individuals have the right to be informed of the grounds of their detention and can make a representation against it.
The detention orders are also subject to judicial review by High Courts through habeas corpus petitions.
Recently, in April 2025, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in Bengaluru invoked COFEPOSA against a woman and her two accomplices involved in a significant gold smuggling case.
This highlights the Act's continued use as a stringent measure to prevent smuggling and related activities by individuals with a demonstrated propensity for such prejudicial actions.
COFEPOSA operates independently and in addition to regular judicial custody under other relevant acts like the Customs Act.

The WHO and its partners provided crucial technical, operational, and financial support to the Ugandan government in containing the outbreak.
it is a severe and often fatal illness caused by the Sudan virus (SUDV), one of the six known species of the Ebolavirus genus.

First identified in 1976 during an outbreak in Sudan, the virus is transmitted to humans through contact with infected animals or bodily fluids of infected individuals. Symptoms include sudden fever, fatigue, muscle pain, headache, vomiting, diarrhea, and, in severe cases, internal and external bleeding.
The disease has a high mortality rate, ranging from 40% to 65%, depending on the outbreak and healthcare infrastructure.
