1 .India's first bamboo-based bio-refinery

(General Studies-III (250 marks)Technology, Economic Development, Biodiversity, Environment, Security, and Disaster Management)

has been inaugurated in the Golaghat district of Assam.

The project is a joint venture between Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) and two Finnish companies, Fortum BV and Chempolis Oy.

The refinery is designed to produce 48,900 metric tonnes of ethanol annually, along with other products like acetic acid and furfural.

The plant is expected to process 500,000 tonnes of bamboo per year, providing a significant economic boost to bamboo farmers and tribal communities in the region.

The inauguration of this bio-refinery is a major step towards achieving India's energy security and green energy goals

About: Bioethanol is a renewable fuel source chemically identical to the ethanol found in alcoholic beverages, but it is produced from biomass rather than fossil fuels.

The primary method of production is microbial fermentation, where microorganisms, typically yeast, convert fermentable sugars from various feedstocks into ethanol.

These feedstocks are categorized into generations: first-generation uses food crops like corn and sugarcane; second-generation utilizes non-food agricultural waste such as straw; and third-generation, still in development, explores the use of algae.

Scientifically, bioethanol possesses a high octane rating, which enhances engine performance and prevents knocking, and its oxygen content allows for a more complete and cleaner combustion than gasoline, reducing certain pollutant emissions.

From an environmental perspective, the use of bioethanol is often considered carbon-neutral or carbon-reductive because the CO2 released during combustion is counterbalanced by the CO2 absorbed by the plants during their growth, though the actual net reduction depends on the feedstock and production process.

However, potential negative impacts, such as land-use changes from large-scale cultivation and pollution from fertilizers, are significant scientific considerations that must be weighed against its benefits.

2 .The National Agricultural Conference-Rabi Abhiyan 2025 is a significant two-day event organized by India's Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare. It is a crucial part of the "Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan" (Developed Agriculture Pledge Campaign), which aims to guide India's agricultural strategy.

3 .Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR):

General Studies Paper-II (250 Marks) – Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International Relations

is a key initiative by India's Ministry of Education, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

It is part of the "One Nation, One Student ID" program, which aims to create a unique, lifelong digital identity for every student in the country.

This 12-digit APAAR ID serves as a centralized, secure repository for a student's entire academic journey, from pre-primary to higher education.

The primary purpose of APAAR is to streamline and digitize academic records. It allows students to store and access their grades, mark sheets, degrees, diplomas, certificates, and even co-curricular achievements in a single digital platform, which is integrated with the DigiLocker ecosystem.

This eliminates the need for physical paperwork and simplifies processes like admissions and job applications by providing verified, authentic data.

For students, APAAR offers several significant benefits: it ensures lifelong access to their academic history, simplifies the process of transferring between educational institutions, and allows for the easy verification of credentials.

For educational institutions, it reduces administrative burden, minimizes errors, and helps prevent academic fraud.

The system also plays a role in data-driven policy-making, helping the government track student progress, identify dropout rates, and tailor educational support programs.

The APAAR ID is directly linked to the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC), which allows for the accumulation and transfer of credits earned across different recognized institutions.
