4 .India’s Blue Economy:
(General Studies-III (250 marks)Technology, Economic Development, Biodiversity, Environment, Security, and Disaster Management)
The NITI Aayog released a strategic report on "India’s Blue Economy" to create a sustainable roadmap for utilizing the nation’s largely unexploited deep-sea and offshore fisheries within its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
Despite India being the world's second-largest fish producer, vast deep-sea potential remains untapped.
The report introduces a science-based, three-phase framework detailing six key policy interventions, including fleet modernization, regulatory overhaul, and specialized financing.
The overarching aim is to responsibly enhance seafood exports, generate employment, reduce pressure on coastal fisheries, and establish India as a global leader in ecologically sustainable deep-sea fishing.
