1.EXERCISE UDARA SHAKTI 2024: After successful participation in Exercise Udara Shakti 2024 at Malaysia, the Indian Air Force (IAF) contingent returned to India, on 10 Aug 24. The joint air exercise was conducted in collaboration with the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) from 05 to 09 August 2024 at Kuantan, Malaysia. The IAF participated with Su-30MKI fighter jets.

3.Tungabhadra River: The Tungabhadra River is a significant river in southern India, originating from the Western Ghats and flowing through the states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. It is formed by the confluence of the Tunga and Bhadra rivers, both of which originate from the Western Ghats in Karnataka. The Tungabhadra River is a major tributary of the Krishna River and is known for its historical, cultural, and economic importance.
Tungabhadra Dam
The Tungabhadra Dam, also known as Pampa Sagar, is a multipurpose dam constructed across the Tungabhadra River near the town of Hospet in the Vijayanagara district of Karnataka. Completed in 1953, the dam is a crucial infrastructure project that serves several purposes:

Irrigation: The dam provides irrigation to a vast area of agricultural land in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, supporting the cultivation of crops like rice, sugarcane, and cotton.
Hydropower Generation: The dam has a hydroelectric power station that generates electricity for the region, contributing to the local energy supply.
Water Supply: It provides water for domestic and industrial use in nearby towns and cities.
Flood Control: The dam plays a vital role in controlling floods in the downstream areas during the monsoon season.
Historical and Cultural Significance
The Tungabhadra River holds great historical and cultural significance. The river basin was once home to the Vijayanagara Empire, one of the most powerful empires in South India.
The ruins of the Vijayanagara capital, Hampi, are located near the river, and the area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The river is also considered sacred by Hindus, and several temples and religious sites are situated along its banks.
4.China Successfully Test-Flies Largest Cargo Drone as Low-Altitude Economy Soars:
China successfully test-flew its largest unmanned cargo aircraft designed for civilian use, marking a significant step in the nation’s development of autonomous aerial vehicles (UAVs) that could eventually transport everything from deliveries to passengers.
On Sunday, the twin-engine aircraft, with a payload capacity of 2 metric tons, took off on its inaugural flight, completing a 20-minute journey in southwestern Sichuan province, according to state media reports citing its developer, Sichuan Tengden Sci-tech Innovation Co.
China’s civilian drone manufacturers are testing drones with larger payloads as part of the government’s effort to develop a low-altitude economy. The aviation regulator projects this industry to grow to 2 trillion yuan (USD 279 billion) by 2030, a four-fold increase from 2023.

The government-funded Tengden builds this drone with a wingspan of 16.1 metres (52.8 feet) and stands 4.6 metres (15 feet) tall, making it slightly larger than the popular four-seat Cessna 172 light aircraft. Tengden’s test flight follows the June maiden flight of the HH-100, a cargo drone developed by AVIC with a payload capacity of 700 kg and a flight radius of 520 km.
5. One India-One Ticket’ to boost tourism: The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) and the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) have collaborated to launch ‘One India-One Ticket’ initiative to enhance the travel experience for passengers on Indian Railways and Namo Bharat Trains. It will allow passengers to book Namo Bharat tickets through IRCTC platform with flexible cancellation and payment.
IRCTC in a statement said that passengers can generate Unique QR code for Namo Bharat train ticket. The code will be valid for 4 days around the journey date options. Namo Bharat tickets can be booked up to 120 days in advance, aligning with the current Railway reservation window.
6.Retail inflation eases to nearly five year low of 3.54 percent in July: Retail inflation for July this year eased to 59 months low of 3.54 per cent on a year-on-year basis. As per the data released today by the , the Consumer Price Index for the last month declined mainly due to a fall in prices of vegetables, fruits and spices. Food inflation for July 2024 was the lowest since June last year. As per the data, last month, food inflation was 5.42 per cent.
Rural inflation for the reported period stood at 4.10 per cent while for urban areas it was 2.98 percent.

MoSPI plays a crucial role in the formulation of economic and social policies by providing reliable and timely statistical information.
7.Kharif Crops Sown in 979 Lakh Hectares: Govt: The government today said that Kharif crops have been sown in more than 979 lakh hectares. The Agriculture Ministry said in a statement that 331.78 lakh hectares of area coverage under paddy have been reported, compared to 318.16 lakh hectares during the corresponding period of last year.
Over 117 lakh hectares of area coverage under pulses have been reported, compared to 110.08 lakh hectares in the corresponding period of last year.
Around 173 lakh hectares of area coverage under coarse cereals have been reported, compared to 171.36 lakh hectares during the corresponding period of last year.
