1 .Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS)(General Studies-III (250 marks)Technology, Economic Development, Biodiversity, Environment, Security, and Disaster Management)  is a rare neurological disorder where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks the peripheral nervous system, the network of nerves outside the brain and spinal cord. This sudden and unexpected condition can cause varying degrees of weakness or tingling sensations, often starting in the legs and spreading upwards. While the exact cause remains unknown, it's believed to be triggered by an infection.

Treatment typically involves plasma exchange or intravenous immunoglobulin to suppress the immune system, along with physical therapy to aid recovery. Most individuals with GBS recover fully, though it may take months or years.

3 .The Paris Agreement is a landmark international treaty adopted in 2015. It unites nearly all the world's nations in a single agreement to tackle climate change.

Key Goals:

  •   Limit global warming to well below 2, preferably to 1.5 degrees Celsius, compared to pre-industrial levels.

  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions to achieve a climate-neutral world by mid-century.

  •   Review countries' commitments every five years to increase ambition over time.

  •   Provide financial assistance to developing countries for climate mitigation and adaptation.

America's Role:

The United States is a major player in global climate action. While the Trump administration withdrew the U.S. from the Paris Agreement, the Biden administration rejoined it, reaffirming the country's commitment to the treaty's goals.

Significance:

Despite the U.S. withdrawal and subsequent rejoining, the Paris Agreement remains a crucial framework for global climate action.

It has spurred increased national ambition, fostered international cooperation, and driven advancements in clean energy technologies. While challenges remain, the agreement continues to be a vital tool in the fight against climate change

4 .World Radio Day,(General Studies-III (250 marks)Technology, Economic Development, Biodiversity, Environment, Security, and Disaster Management) celebrated annually on February 13th, is a UNESCO initiative recognized by the United Nations to highlight the enduring power and importance of radio.

This day serves to raise awareness about radio's crucial role in disseminating information, fostering democratic discourse, and celebrating humanity's diversity.

Radio, as the most widely consumed medium globally, possesses a unique ability to reach vast audiences, including remote communities and vulnerable populations, often transcending barriers of education and access. It acts as a platform for diverse voices, enabling representation and dialogue, and plays a vital role in emergency communication and disaster relief.

World Radio Day encourages international cooperation among broadcasters and promotes the use of radio to provide access to information. Each year, the day focuses on a specific theme; for example, the 2025 theme is "Radio and Climate Change," emphasizing radio's power to educate and mobilize action on environmental issues.

5 .India's Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation has eased to 4.31% in January 2025,

(General Studies-III (250 marks)Technology, Economic Development, Biodiversity, Environment, Security, and Disaster Management)

the lowest in five months. This decline is attributed to a significant drop in food prices, which had been a major driver of inflation in recent months. The decrease in inflation is a positive sign for the Indian economy, as it indicates that price pressures are easing.

This could lead to increased consumer spending and boost economic growth. However, it is important to note that the inflation rate is still above the Reserve Bank of India's target range of 2-6%, so the central bank is likely to remain cautious in its monetary policy stance.
