Jansatta Analysis:
1 .Vice President of India : C. P. Radhakrishnan, the National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) candidate and former Governor of Maharashtra, has been elected as the 15th Vice President of India.
The election for the Vice Presidential post was necessitated by the resignation of Former VP Jagdeep Dhankhar.
Radhakrishnan, a two-time Member of Parliament from Coimbatore, has a long political career and has also served as the Governor of Jharkhand, with additional charges for Telangana and Puducherry.
His election was widely expected due to the numerical strength of the NDA in the electoral college.
2 .Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) and EdCIL (India) Limited have entered into a partnership under a new program called Accelerating Strategic Progress in Research and Education (ASPIRE) to promote the development of "dual-use" technologies.
iDEX, a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Defence, and EdCIL (India), a Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Education, will work together to extend the iDEX innovation model beyond the defense sector to address critical challenges in the civilian sector.
The goal is to leverage the strengths of both organizations to foster innovative technologies that can be used for both military and civilian applications.
The collaboration aims to utilize India's vibrant startup ecosystem to develop scalable and impactful innovations, thereby promoting the government's emphasis on indigenous capabilities and self-reliance (Aatmanirbhar Bharat).
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in New Delhi on September 9, 2025
3 .The Universal Postal Union (UPU) is a vital, specialized agency of the United Nations that was founded on October 9, 1874, through the Treaty of Bern.
Its primary objective is to maintain and facilitate a single, universal postal territory, ensuring the seamless exchange of mail across the globe.
Headquartered in Bern, Switzerland, the UPU establishes the rules for international mail exchanges, standardizing postal rates, units of weight, and payment systems to eliminate the need for cumbersome bilateral agreements between member nations.
With 192 member countries, it serves as the central forum for cooperation in the postal sector, providing technical assistance to developing nations and setting global standards for service quality and security.
The founding of the UPU is commemorated every year on October 9th as World Post Day.
