2 .The National Maritime Domain Awareness (NMDA) Project (General Studies-III (250 marks)Technology, Economic Development, Biodiversity, Environment, Security, and Disaster Management)

is a critical initiative by the Indian Navy designed to significantly enhance India's maritime and coastal security. Building upon the existing National Command, Control, Communication and Intelligence (NC3I) Network, the NMDA project aims to create a comprehensive, integrated system for data collection, analysis, and information sharing among all maritime stakeholders.

This ambitious project, executed on a "turnkey basis" by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) under the administration of the Indian Navy, will leverage advanced technologies, including AI-enabled software, to provide real-time situational awareness and enable the swift detection and neutralization of maritime threats like terrorism, piracy, and illegal activities.

ree

This project is a direct response to the lessons learned from the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks and aligns with the Prime Minister's "SAGAR" (Security and Growth for All in the Region) vision, underscoring India's commitment to safeguarding its extensive coastline and maritime interests in the increasingly complex Indian Ocean Region.

3 .The Erasmus+ Programme (General Studies Paper-II (250 Marks) – Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International Relations)

is the European Union's comprehensive initiative for education, training, youth, and sport, operational from 2021 to 2027 with a substantial budget of €26.2 billion.

Its core mission is to foster personal, educational, professional, and social development by offering millions of individuals in Europe and beyond opportunities to study, train, gain experience, and volunteer abroad.

Beyond individual growth, the program aims to strengthen European identity and active citizenship, drive innovation and quality in educational systems, and promote social inclusion, diversity, and the green and digital transitions.

The program primarily operates through three Key Actions: Learning Mobility of Individuals (enabling international study, traineeships, and exchanges for students and staff),

ree

Cooperation among Organisations and Institutions (supporting collaborative projects for innovation and capacity building), and Support to Policy Development and Cooperation (aiding the implementation of EU policies).

Ultimately, Erasmus+ serves as a vital tool for fostering international cooperation, enhancing skills, promoting social cohesion, and contributing to the sustainable development of Europe and its global partners.

4 .Amanita phalloides :(General Studies-III (250 marks)Technology, Economic Development, Biodiversity, Environment, Security, and Disaster Management)

Erin Patterson, a woman found guilty of murdering three people and attempting to murder a fourth by serving them a meal laced with death cap mushrooms (Amanita phalloides).

The death cap mushroom, Amanita phalloides, is widely recognized as the world's most perilous fungus, responsible for the majority of fatal mushroom poisonings due to its deceptive resemblance to edible varieties and the dangerously delayed onset of its symptoms.

Its appearance is characterized by a cap ranging from whitish to olive-green, pure white and free gills, a white stem with a distinctive membranous ring, and, most crucially, a sac-like volva at its bulbous base, often buried underground.

ree

This ectomycorrhizal fungus primarily associates with oaks and other exotic trees, making it prevalent across all continents except Antarctica, particularly in urban and suburban areas where its host trees are planted.

The death cap's extreme toxicity stems from heat-stable amatoxins and phallotoxins, which attack the liver and kidneys.

A small piece can be lethal, yet symptoms like severe gastrointestinal distress don't appear until 6 to 24 hours after ingestion, followed by a deceptive latent phase before culminating in life-threatening liver and kidney failure.
