Global Hunger Index: India has been ranked 105th in the 2024 Global Hunger Index (GHI), placing it in the "serious" hunger category. The GHI, developed by international organizations Concern Worldwide and Welthungerhilfe, assesses hunger levels based on indicators such as undernourishment, child stunting, child wasting, and child mortality across 127 countries. India’s score of 27.3 indicates significant hunger issues.
In contrast, neighboring South Asian countries like Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka have achieved better rankings in the "moderate" category. The report highlights that without substantial progress, many nations, including India, are unlikely to meet the UN’s Zero Hunger goal by 2030.
Globally, the report underscores the growing challenge of food insecurity, with millions facing hunger daily and some African nations listed in the "alarming" category due to conflicts exacerbating food crises.
