No Major Port in India has been privatised as the ownership of land & waterfront remains with Government.
While PPP ensures efficient operation of berth/terminal through concession agreement for a fix tenure.
After completion of tenure port asset is handed over to Port Authority.

⛴️India has several major ports that play a crucial role in the country’s maritime trade. Here are some of the major ports:
1. Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) - Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra: Also known as Nhava Sheva, it is the largest container port in India and handles a significant portion of India's containerized cargo.
2. Mumbai Port Trust - Mumbai, Maharashtra: One of the oldest ports in India, it primarily handles bulk cargo, including petroleum products, chemicals, and industrial cargo.
3. Chennai Port - Chennai, Tamil Nadu: One of the oldest and busiest ports on the east coast of India, it handles a variety of cargo, including containers, automobiles, and petroleum products.
4. Kolkata Port Trust - Kolkata, West Bengal: Also known as Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, it is the oldest operating port in India, comprising the Kolkata Dock System and the Haldia Dock Complex.
5. Visakhapatnam Port - Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh: A major port on the east coast, it handles a wide range of cargo, including iron ore, coal, crude oil, and petroleum products.
6. Kandla Port (Deendayal Port) - Kutch, Gujarat: One of the largest ports in India by volume, it handles crude oil, petroleum products, grains, and other bulk cargo.
7. Cochin Port - Kochi, Kerala: It is strategically located on the southwest coast and handles container cargo, crude oil, and petroleum products. It is also a major transshipment hub.
8. Mormugao Port - Goa: Primarily a mineral export port, it handles iron ore exports and other general cargo.
9. New Mangalore Port - Mangalore, Karnataka: It mainly handles crude oil, petroleum products, and other bulk cargo like coal and iron ore.
10. Paradip Port - Paradip, Odisha: It is one of the major ports on the east coast, handling bulk cargo like iron ore, coal, and crude oil.
11. Tuticorin Port (V.O. Chidambaranar Port) - Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu: It handles container cargo, fertilizers, and petroleum products.
These ports are vital for India’s trade, connecting the country to global markets and facilitating the import and export of goods.
