is the theme for World Environment Day 2025, which is celebrated annually on June 5th.

2 . ECOSOC:General Studies Paper-II (250 Marks) – Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International Relations India has been elected to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations for the term 2026-28. This is a significant development, as ECOSOC is a crucial organ at the heart of the UN's efforts to advance sustainable development across its economic, social, and environmental dimensions.
The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), one of the six principal organs of the United Nations, was established in 1945 by the UN Charter.

Comprising 54 Member States, elected by the General Assembly for three-year terms with seats allocated based on geographical representation, ECOSOC plays a vital and multifaceted role within the UN system.
Its core functions include promoting higher standards of living, full employment, and economic and social progress globally, alongside identifying solutions to international economic, social, health, and related challenges.
Furthermore, ECOSOC is instrumental in facilitating international cultural and educational cooperation and encouraging universal respect for and observance of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
ECOSOC serves as the central platform for fostering debate, inspiring innovative thinking, forging consensus, and coordinating actions to achieve internationally agreed goals, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs, and is responsible for the follow-up to major UN conferences and summits.
3 .International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS):General Studies Paper-II (250 Marks) – Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International Relations The International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS), established in 1930 and headquartered in Brussels, Belgium, is a prominent global non-profit organization dedicated to advancing public administration.
Operating as a federation of member states, national sections, and academic research centers worldwide, the IIAS is committed to promoting scientific research and knowledge dissemination in public governance.
It facilitates comparative studies, bringing together diverse practical experiences and theoretical analyses to identify and elaborate solutions for contemporary policy challenges, including digital transformation, effective service delivery, environmental management, and ethical governance.
the IIAS enables collaborative projects aimed at driving innovation in global public management and, through entities like the International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA), accredits academic and professional training programs.
4 .Mercosur (Southern Common Market) General Studies Paper-II (250 Marks) – Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International Relationsis a South American trade bloc established in 1991 by the Treaty of Asunción, with the goal of promoting economic integration, free trade, and political cooperation among its member states. Its founding members Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay later welcomed Venezuela in 2012 (though its membership has been suspended since 2017 due to political and economic concerns).
Additionally, Bolivia is in the process of becoming a full member, while Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, and Suriname hold associate member status, allowing them partial trade benefits without full integration.
Mercosur’s primary objectives include eliminating trade barriers, establishing a common external tariff (CET) for imports from non-member countries, and fostering economic collaboration in areas such as infrastructure, energy, and agriculture.

Mercosur remains a key player in Latin American economic integration, influencing regional trade dynamics and serving as a platform for diplomatic engagement.
5 .Lee Jae-myung:
General Studies Paper-II (250 Marks) – Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International Relations has been elected as the new president of South Korea
He was elected in a snap election held on June 3, 2025, and took office on June 4, 2025. This election followed the impeachment and removal of the previous president, Yoon Suk Yeol.
