India's textile industry is projected to reach a value of $350 billion by 2030, creating an estimated 35 million jobs, according to Union Minister of Textiles, Giriraj Singh. Speaking at the Curtain Raiser event for 'Bharat Tex 2025' in New Delhi, the Minister expressed optimism that India will be recognized globally for its ‘Bharat’ brand and eco-friendly textile products. The event was attended by Union Minister of State for Textiles and External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, Textiles Secretary Rachna Shah, and other senior officials.

Minister Singh highlighted that the government’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for textiles will boost the apparel sector's output and help enhance brand visibility. He also noted that the scheme will integrate the textile value chain and attract foreign direct investment (FDI) into the country.

Bharat Tex 2025 is an international textile event organized by a consortium of Textile Export Promotion Councils, with support from the Ministry of Textiles.

Bharat Tex 2025 will bring together industry leaders, policymakers, and global buyers for a series of activities, including live demonstrations, fashion shows, and sustainability workshops.

PLI scheme for Textiles is part of the overall announcement of PLI Schemes for 13 sectors made earlier during the Union Budget 2021-22, with an outlay of Rs. 1.97 lakh crore. With the announcement of PLI Schemes for 13 sectors, minimum production in India is expected to be around Rs. 37.5 lakh crore over 5 years and minimum expected employment over 5 years is nearly 1 crore.

PLI scheme for Textiles will promote production of high value MMF Fabric, Garments and Technical Textiles in country. The incentive structure has been so formulated that industry will be encouraged to invest in fresh capacities in these segments.

This will give a major push to growing high value MMF segment which will complement the efforts of cotton and other natural fibre-based textiles industry in generating new opportunities for employment and trade, resultantly helping India regain its historical dominant status in global textiles trade.

Bharat Tex-2025 aims to establish itself as a premier international industry platform. The event will feature exhibitions, knowledge sessions, thematic discussions, G2G meetings, B2B networks, MoUs, product launches, and interactive pavilions. It will attract top policymakers, global CEOs, international exhibitors, and buyers.

Bharat Tex-2025 will focus on transforming the textile industry into a futuristic domain of growth and development, with pavilions dedicated to sustainability, circularity, and digitization. The event will also feature interactive fabric testing zones, product demonstrations, and master classes by experienced craft persons.

India takes pride in its rich textile heritage, and Bharat Tex-2025 will showcase the country’s solid foundation of tradition, innovation, and sustainability. The event will reinforce India’s position as a pioneer in sustainable textile manufacturing, leading the world across the entire value chain.

PM MITRA: (Prime Minister’s Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel) is a flagship initiative by the Government of India aimed at promoting the growth of the textile sector in the country. Announced under the Ministry of Textiles, this scheme is designed to establish world-class infrastructure and attract investments into the textile industry, creating employment opportunities and strengthening India’s position as a global textile hub.

Key features of PM MITRA include:

  1. Development of Textile Parks: The scheme plans to set up 7 mega textile parks across the country, providing state-of-the-art infrastructure for the entire textile value chain—from spinning, weaving, processing, and dyeing to printing and garment manufacturing.

  2. Public-Private Partnerships (PPP): These parks will be developed through a Public-Private Partnership model, with both central and state governments working together alongside private players to drive investments and ensure efficiency.

  3. Integrated Textile Value Chain: The parks aim to facilitate the integration of all stages of textile production in one location, which will help reduce logistics costs, improve quality, and enhance competitiveness in global markets.

  4. Job Creation: The scheme is expected to generate a significant number of jobs, both direct and indirect, and create opportunities for skill development in the sector.

  5. Sustainability and Innovation: PM MITRA promotes environmentally sustainable practices and innovation in textile manufacturing, including the use of green technologies and efficient water and energy management systems.

By leveraging India's strength in textile production and improving infrastructure, the PM MITRA initiative aspires to make India a major player in the global textile supply chain while creating millions of job opportunities across the country.

Samarth (Scheme for Capacity Building in Textiles Sector) is a government initiative launched by the Ministry of Textiles in India, aimed at providing skill development and training to the workforce in the textile sector. The scheme focuses on enhancing the productivity of workers, especially in the organized and traditional textile industries, and creating job opportunities across various segments of the sector.

Key Features of the Samarth Scheme:

  2. Job Placement: The scheme is aligned with industry needs and includes provisions for job placements after training. Trainees receive industry-relevant skill sets, ensuring that they are employable in the sector.

  3. Focus on Women and Youth: Samarth places special emphasis on empowering women and the youth, providing them with training and opportunities in the growing textile industry. The goal is to equip these groups with the skills needed to earn a sustainable livelihood.

  4. Target Groups:

    • Unemployed youth.

    • Workers from marginalized communities.

    • Traditional artisans, including handloom weavers and handicraft makers, are a major focus of the scheme, helping them transition into more organized markets.

  5. Implementation Partners: The scheme works in collaboration with industry associations, textile manufacturers, and state governments, ensuring a robust infrastructure for delivering training programs.

  6. Integration with Government Initiatives: Samarth is closely integrated with other government schemes like "Make in India" and the "PM MITRA" initiative, aiming to enhance productivity in the sector, boost employment, and align India with global textile market standards.

  7. Employment Generation: By providing focused training in different aspects of the textile industry, the scheme contributes to employment generation in various segments like garment manufacturing, processing, and spinning.

Samarth is crucial to India's strategy of strengthening its textile industry, fostering skills, and creating a more competitive workforce to meet both domestic and international demands.
